Dreaming about animals goes deep into one's 'animal', untamed aspects of personality which most of the times are repressed in the subconscious, but cannot always be directed and controlled by reason.

WILD ANIMALS - Animals seen in our dreams represent the 'ID', the irrational, the absconded part of personality Sigmund Freud was speaking about in his book entitled ' The Interpretation of Dreams.' According to the famous psychoanalyst, there are 3 main divisions in everyone's psyche or Self: the ID, which comprises our instincts and primitive desires, such as sexual desires, fantasies or frustrations; the EGO is the rational division of one's self, which tries to mediate between the hidden desires of the individual (the ID) and the society, sense of morality and taboos (the SUPEREGO). Consequently, if an animal appears in dreams, it is closely linked to your hidden desires which come out while you are not awake and your ID is not repressed by society's unwritten rules.

Dreams about fighting and even killing an animal should be interpreted as reflecting your wish or struggle to repress your instinctive, irrational desires and act morally, always guided by reason. Also, dreaming about animals in general or about finding or merely seeing animal bodies which decompose symbolizes the same strong ambition of yours to fully control your wild inner instincts and let yourself guided by intellect and rationality only.

On the other hand, if you have a dream in which you save the life of an animal or an animal is your savior, this means that you do not want to repress your instincts and primitive desires, you are not ashamed of them, but you admit feeling certain emotions and want to create a balance between your inmost desires and the intellectual aspect of your personality.

Besides inner and often repressed instincts (sexual desires, most of the times), animals populating your dream may also illustrate your physical characteristics. For instance, if you dream about strong animals, then you yourself are well built and endowed with strength and endurance.
