Dreams: Wash

If you dream that you wash yourself or see someone else washing their body, you should pay attention to the water used for the cleansing of the body - because washing our bodies with clear water is a good omen, representing emotional and/ or spiritual cleansing. On the other hand, washing ourselves with muddy water bears a negative significance because we only get ourselves 'dirtier' - therefore angrier, sadder, more depressed.

Water is one of the five primordial elements, which, as dream symbol, cleanses and purifies both the body and soul. Therefore, if the water with which you wash yourself is clear, it will help you remove physical and spiritual 'dirt' and achieve spiritual renewal. Clear water you use for washing your body or other things in a dream also stands for 'washing away' problems and worries, uncomfortable situations and sorrow you may experience in the waking life. Consequently, washing with clear water is a good dream omen foretelling prosperity and success, good luck and happiness in all aspects of your life. Also, bathing in a river, sea or ocean foretells successful undertakings and happy events to follow in your life.

But water is also one of the major dream symbols for human subconscious. Therefore, if you dream that you wash your body in the sea or ocean waves, this means that you may be overwhelmed by the repressed emotions, feelings, fears and anxieties deeply buried throughout time in your subconscious. You have to release all negative energy accumulated inside before you are able to move forward, towards new and possibly brighter horizons.

On the other hand, washing your body or other things with dirty, muddy water means accumulating even more flaws and problems than you already have in the waking life. Moreover, taking a bath in a dirty water together with other individuals is a bad dream omen which forewarns of untrustworthy and sly individuals who pretend to be your friends, but whose only aim is to feed off you.

If in a dream you assiduously try to remove stains or dirt on your body with clear water, this means that you want to get rid of a painful past or of feelings of guilt which haunt you. This dream image also emphasizes the idea of subsequent spiritual purification.

If the water you use for washing is clear and warm, then you are going to let go of past suffering and worries and you will get out a whole new, purified person. But if the water you want to wash with is too cold, this may bear a negative significance and foretell an unpleasant visit you will receive soon or about enemies on the lurk in the waking life. Also, if the water is too hot, this may forewarn of future unwise and irresponsible deeds and actions of someone.

If not washing the whole body, it is also very important to note which part of your body you cleanse, as this has a great relevance for the interpretation of your dream. For instance, washing your feet in a dream usually represents your strong wish to achieve general equilibrium in the waking life (feet seen as a means to maintain our balance). This dream image may also stand for your independent nature or for your desire to get free of a certain situation, feeling etc. which overwhelms and restrains your liberty (feet seen as the 'tool' which confers us freedom of movement). Washing your hands is mostly related to the emotional aspect of your personality, therefore this dream image may illustrate your steadiness and desire to commit to a long-term relationship (especially when washing fingers) or wish to achieve independence (not having a free hand).

Overall, washing as dream image is a metaphor for the removal of all that is negative, unnecessary, excessive in your life, for self-cleansing and purification. Please bear in mind the fact that the release of all negative energy accumulated within your subconscious is a mandatory condition for achieving emotional balance and general equilibrium in the waking life.

But if in your dream you clean up your house and wash, for instance, the floor, the windows etc., this may symbolize your desire to achieve domestic happiness.
