Pig (16th of March, 2010)

By Alexandra Lupu

The shy, patient, conservative and trustworthy Boar (Pig) – the born friend

"A faithful friend is a strong defense: and he that hath found such an one hath found a treasure."

The Bible, Ecc. 6:14

Personality: When we think about these lazy and greedy animals, the image which immediately pops into our mind is most of the times closely connected with negative traits, such as lack of ambition and motivation, idleness and remissness, filthiness, selfishness and untrustworthiness and the list could go on for at least several pages. Also, we should not forget about the symbolism George Orwell attaches to these animals in his famous political and social satire Animal Farm - here pigs are seen as intellectual exploiters who manage to take control of the farm by using Machiavellian strategies and manipulating the whole society to their own benefit. However, when it comes to Chinese astrology, we should try and erase all these negative connotations and symbolism out of our mind, because people born in the year of the Pig are blessed with many positive traits of character and have a very pleasant nature in general.

To start with, individuals born under the auspices of this gentle domestic animal are, along with those governed by the Dog, the best friends, partners and family men one can possibly wish for. Loyal and devoted, protective and supportive, affectionate and soothing, peaceful and sweet-natured, they are the giving, nurturing and yielding companions who make our life more agreeable every single day, who ease our pain when we go through grief periods and whom we can definitely rely on when we are not able to handle a certain situation by ourselves.

Is there any need for further reasons to talk you into hanging on to a Pig individual whenever you are lucky enough to meet one? I guess not, given the already mentioned long list of qualities of which they are proud - or should be, as they are utterly modest, too - owners. However, even if this should be more than enough, I am sure you will be amazed to find out that the best is yet to come, and by best I mean positive features anyone craves to be endowed with.

Besides their tender and caring nature, Pig individuals are very honest, straightforward and outspoken, with a strong sense of fair-play which makes them keep aside from any form of deceit or disguise. It is in their very nature to be open and sincere, and try as hard as they might, they could not use guile or slyness for their own benefit, not to mention feeding off the others, which they deeply and absolutely loath. The frankness and truthfulness of these people arise from a unique mixture of childlike and endearing candidness, innocence and purity, which characterizes them until old age, blended with the scrupulosity and faithfulness of a grown-up.

Due to the fact that people born in the year of this peaceful animal are so unwary and almost never suspicious of others' malice and hidden intentions, they are easily taken advantage of and even more easy to fool. Starting with the premises that all men are good and open until the contrary is factually proved, these individuals will never become determined skeptics, no matter how many disappointments they will have to face because they are too easy of belief. They like to live in their imaginary, ideal world in which no one is driven by selfishness or meanness.

Even if I have already mentioned, at least a couple of times so far, the fact that Pig individuals make great friends and companions, I have no choice but to keep repeating it and make it the leitmotif or the theme of this text. You can blame me for the possibly annoying recurrence of this theme, but you cannot blame me for misleading you when I say that these people are really worth admiring and praising. Those who are fortunate enough to have been born under the auspices of this sign make excellent companions because they also have tons of decency and common sense and they would rather die before offending or making someone feel embarrassed. Good-mannered, polite and gallant and also a conservative, such a person is never insolent or brazen and he wants - and succeeds on most occasions - to do everything right so as not to disrespect social norms.

In his true belief that all people are as open, honest and caring as himself, he may be taken for a naive and too credulous person, but he does not mind this too much, as he does not want to let himself dragged by society into becoming a mean, skeptic, cold-blooded individual. Instead, he prefers being hurt from time to time and then move on preserving the same warm, tender and passionate nature they have been endowed with since birth. And indeed will they face many disappointments and a lot of blight, but they will never hold grudges or show antipathy. Neither do they envy or resent those who are more successful, prosperous, skilled or lucky than them, because the goodness these individuals breed within their soul is too strong to let any negative, destructive feeling make its way in.

Very peaceful, those who have been born in the year of the Pig do not like debates, arguments or anything which involves hostility or animosity. When such situations arise, they are more than willing to be the ones who give up and admit that they are wrong and the others are right, only to end since in the egg anything which may lead to a conflict or fight. In the ideal world the spirit of Pig people lives in all, is calm and harmonious, serenity prevails, all men are cordial, understanding and tolerant and let go of their anger long ago.

But the fact that individuals born under this sign prefer staying away from disputes does not make them weak, same as the fact that preferring to keep their lives as simple as possible does not make them dull or narrow-minded. When cruelly attacked by someone, they react and stand up for themselves or for those who face injustice.

Even if some consider them simple-minded and not very bright due tot their reserved and modest nature, they should know that they are completely and by all means wrong. Pig individuals are not too conversational or outgoing indeed, but when getting closer to them one cannot but notice how quick-witted, resourceful and skillful they are. In fact, these people are thirsty for knowledge and they learn and acquire new skills with each day that goes by. If the Pigs are not at home relaxing in the quiet background of their abode or outdoors with their group of friends having fun, then do you know where to find them? At the library, in the reading room, passionately studying arts, literature, geography, history and anything which is not Math-related.

The quiet, self-contained and a bit timid nature of such a person also keeps him from showing-off and standing out. A Pig will never do something just to be noticed or to get others' attention. As a matter of fact, he does not like to be in the limelight and he is the one who always keeps at the margin of the group, mingling among the others. He feels comfortable this way and he is perfectly aware of the fact that he must be liked and loved for what he really is, not for what he appears to be. So, what's the use of building a glamorous public image, when this does not reflect the true self of someone? And why should we let ourselves blinded by that glittering tip of the iceberg if we can search for its bulk and be sure that someone is worth our sympathy and friendship?

One of the major downsides of Pig individuals is closely related to the fact that they are, indeed, like the gentle animals which govern their sign, a bit too leisurely and mostly like to indulge in things and actions which give them pleasure at any level. Hedonists, they do not really strive to have a brilliant career, reach a leadership position or make wealth through hard work and perseverance, as long as this would certainly keeps them from living life at its fullest and seizing the day. With a bit more ambition and resolution they could achieve any goals they set their mind to, because they have all the resources and skills to do it. Instead, they prefer hiding their values and qualities behind a mask of aloofness and indifference until someone wants hard enough to make that mask come off their really agreeable and friendly personality.

Unlike Dragons, Rats, Tigers or Roosters, people born in the year of the Pig do not like to take pride in their positive traits of character and show off. When deciding upon a career, they would be the men behind the scenes, who are not seen by many but who take care of every single detail so that everything works out just fine for the prouder ones who like to appear in the front.

The Pig and love

The kind, caring and affectionate Pig may make a great mate and life partner, as long as you are willing to overlook some of his weak points, such as being a bit lazy and unambitious and seeking more for pleasure than success in life. But if you are looking for a peaceful and quiet, long-term relationship and domestic happiness, then people born under this sign are the ideal candidates. Patient and tolerant, the giving and yielding kind, serene and altruist, maybe too gentle and warm-hearted for the harsh times we are living, the Pig makes a front-rank family man, both as a spouse and parent.

Supportive and reliable, they are the trustworthy companions, lovers and partners everyone wishes for, because they never let you down and when they make a promise they do everything that is humanly possible and even more to stick to it. When going through difficult times, they will be there for you to lend a helping hand and a good piece of advice, or a shoulder to cry on whenever sad or depressed.

Very romantic and emotional, Pig individuals like to show their love and affection often, both factually and physically. They fall in love easily and if the person they become infatuated with reciprocates, then they are ready to settle down and have a big, happy family as soon as possible. They are not looking for adventures or challenging experiences neither in everyday life, nor in a relationship. All they wish for is to achieve emotional balance and lead an accomplished life near their spouse and kids.

Alluring, sensual and charismatic, people born under this sign are not adepts of no-strings-attached sexual relations. They are very much into boudoir relations as long as these are the expression of true love and they represent the union of souls as much as that of bodies. One way or the other, you should know that a Pig individual is great in the sack, as he can be sexy, romantic, tender and caressing, making sweet love to you in a bed of roses by the light of hundreds of aromatherapy candles, but he can also offer you steamy nights of passionate and fiery sex. As long as you two have a steady and serious relationship, of course!
