The news hit the showbiz world like a shock wave, no one could believe it, Heath Ledger, that promising actor who shot to fame just over a year ago, was found dead in his SoHo apartment in New York. Immediately, rumors and theories began emerging but the details are still shady. What can be held for certain is that a very promising career was killed in the bud and a wonderful person died just too damn soon.
Cause of death is believed to be drug overdose as there were bottles of sleeping pills found all over the house and in his bed, but we have also learned that the actor had been suffering from pneumonia at the time of death. The question on everyone's lips right now is: accident or suicide? To that his family, including his dad and former fiancée Michelle Williams who is also the mother of his 2-year-old daughter Matilda, say no, he just wasn't that kind of person.
Also, rumors sprung up that the Australian actor had an encounter with substance abuse but had been clean for over a year now, keeping busy by working around the clock. However, at this point such a rumor does not bode well for Heath. His body was found by a housekeeper and a masseuse at 3:31 PM (January 22nd) in the apartment he had rented in SoHo, New York. The masseuse was there for an appointment but when there was no answer at the door, the housekeeper let her in. They found Heath naked in his bed, face down, and when they got no response from him, they called 911. Emergency services say he was in full cardiac arrest when they got to the scene and was declared dead minutes later. He was just 28.
Many of you might remember that he got nominated for an Oscar about a year ago, for the role he did in "Brokeback Mountain" and this year he gave a more than stunning reinterpretation of the Joker in the latest Batman movie, "The Dark Knight". Many actors and officials (including Warner Bros. and the Prime Minister of Australia) already issued statements in which they lament the loss and extend their condolences to friends and family. Right now Heath's body has been taken for investigation as crowds of hundreds lined the streets outside the building still in shock over the news of his death. The ironic thing is that only two months ago he spoke in an interview that he felt good about dying because he knew he would live on through his daughter. As story continues we'll keep you posted.
