'Agent Provocateur' is the French for 'inciting agent' who generally provokes debate or controversy. And that's all this brand of lingerie is about: provoking (usually men's senses). This brand, originated in one of the most puritan countries in the world, the United Kingdom, has pushed the limits of eroticism through its over-the-top provocative products and it surely improved the sex life of a great amount of people all around the globe. It consists of three stores in England and three stores in the United States.
Although a 'young' lingerie brand (the first store opened in 1994), it's already a fearful competition for its American rival, 'Victoria's Secret', as it attracts all the hottest stars of the moment, such as Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Christina Aguilera, Carmen Electra and Kate Moss. The celebrity of this brand lies mostly in its controversial advertising policy (its banned commercial featuring Kylie Minogue sure did help pushing the envelope in ads), proving once again that sex and scandals do sell.
The new collection from 'Agent Provocateur' is available for the public's eye at their official site and its new 'face' is the comeback supermodel Kate Moss, who has just re-launched her career after admitting to having been addicted to drugs and gone into rehab. The supermodel is providing a breathtaking striptease show in one of the four series of 'Dreams'-films for the erotic lingerie brand. The 'star'-colors of the collection are definitely red and black and the look the designers strive to achieve regards, on the one hand, the feminine, girlish and playful women, and on the other, the amazon, domineering ones. The inspiration for the latter is from the S&M outfits, and the result is kinky yet not over the edge.
The fabrics vary from the finest French lace up to mere cotton. The hit material however, is the tulle used in all possible combinations. The ensembles usually include a bra and a thong but the corset along with the lace camisole are a must-have of this season.
One of my personal favorites is a combination of plum satin lingerie. It features a semi-bra, a thong, a cheeky suspender ouvert and a delightful pair of hold-ups that could make any man on this planet go nuts.
Kate Moss looks even hotter than in her twenties in a mint and black ensemble made of the prettiest lace. And to spice it up, they added up one of the sexiest accessories invented by humankind- the suspender that is attached to the hold-ups, omnipresent throughout the entire collection.
For a more ingénue look, the brand offers us white or pink satin lingerie to which they add ribbons that emphasize a softer, girlish approach. For the wild ones, 'Agent Provocateur' has created a few hot-as-hell articles such as the pasties that are adhesive coverings applied to cover only the nipples. These items were originally used in strip clubs so you'll probably feel like an exotic dancer wearing them. Combined with a revealing quarter cup bra in fiery red they are one of the hottest, most unique products in the collection. You probably won't find something as provocative at 'Victoria's Secret'.
Another mind-blowing ensemble is comprised of a black and white underwired uplifting bra, brief or thong (depending on your tastes), a delicious waspie and of course the hold-ups, adorned with little white ribbons. It just looks so sophisticated and pretty at the same time that you can't help falling in love with this sexy outfit.
However, there were a few items I didn't quite 'get'. For example, a cotton T-shirt available in classic black or fiery red with puff sleeves and leather belts around the breasts and arms combined with black or red cotton briefs and...yes, you guessed, the by-now classic hold-ups. First of all, this fabric is anything but fun or sexy, therefore contradicting the main premises for this collection. Secondly, I find the leather belts quite tacky in this combination, but associate it with a whip and it will turn into every man's sado-masochistic wildest fantasy. Too bad the leather gloves are not for sale though.
Overall, I would say the appeal of this collection does not lie in its originality but in the wise use of some items traditionally considered to be hot: the corset, the hold-ups, the suspender; and by topping all these classics with the pasties, it's probably the next best thing in underwear.
