It's been a while since we've heard anything about "Sex and the City" the movie and I bet you guys were actually losing sleep over it. After all, who can live without a single piece of news, or a rumor or something to grab on, about a movie that will star four middle-aged women, played by four actresses whose entire careers can actually be resumed to the same parts they also played in a TV show? True, "Sex and the City" was one of the greatest hits HBO ever put out and it will always remain a very influential series that changed pop culture for ever. But that doesn't mean that we're supposed to hide behind the finger and pretend like we don't know what led to the shooting of this movie.
Just like with the Spice Girl reunion, getting the old cast back together for a "SATC" movie was not so much about bringing "closure" to the characters' stories (because that's what we had in the final episode of the series, didn't we?) or about finally fulfilling the wish of the fans, who always hoped a long feature film would be made. No, this was more about egos the size of the Moon and paychecks to match. And, while the new adventure of the four girls (women, should I say?) played by Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon and Kim Cattrall will certainly be something worthy of the long wait, let's not presume that it will be all as some sort of reward for us, the fans of the HBO show.
No, it will be because the four of them will have found by then a way to swallow some of their pride and try at least to make this last chance they have at ever playing the audacious socialites work. Of course, a fat bonus to tolerate each other will also help smooth any differences away, wouldn't you think? Because that's what's going on right now on the set of the movie, if we're to believe anything from the rumors that are plaguing the tabs. Apparently, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis who are, from the general standpoint, the most down to earth and easy-going of the lot, are cashing in extra money just to put up with Kim Cattrall's nasty diva behavior. Girl... puh-lee-ze!
As you might remember, it was Kim who always put the reunion on hold, by not agreeing to have her name associated with that of kinky Samantha anymore. When she did eventually agree to take her part back (it wouldn't have been a SATC reunion if one of the girls was no longer there, right?), it is said that she did it on a couple of very strict conditions that had to be met on the spot. If we were to push this a bit more, we could even say that being allowed to act like a regular bitch was one of these conditions. Because that's the only way I can explain why the producer would have to pay off the other stars just so Kim can act like a precious little diva.
"Not everything is sexy in the city. Sources tell 'Star' that Kim Cattrall was such a diva to work with on the Sex and the City movie that her costars are getting a secret bonus for dealing with Kim's prima donna behavior. An insider tells 'Star', 'Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon are getting a ‘hush-hush' bonus for not being divas during filming and as a thank-you for putting up with Kim.'", "Star" magazine writes in today's issue. But... what about Sarah Jessica Parker?!
Anyway, I can't wait for this to come out! May 2008 never seemed so far away as it does now, trust me.
