The most successful comedic actress of the last 30 years, Goldie Hawn seems to have found the fountain of youth and she's keeping the secret all for herself. She's been doing movies ever since the 60 and during that time she managed to give the public quite a few laughs and thrills. What more can a real actor ask for?
Goldie was born in the nation's capital, Washington DC from parents who had a prominent artistic side (her dad was a band musician and her mom was a dance school owner). With the best of the both worlds at her fingertips, Goldie soon began taking ballet and dancing lessons and she would turn this into a life pursuit (at least for a while). In was only natural that at first she would follow in her mother's footsteps and take up dancing professionally, starting with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo in "The Nutcracker" in '55. In '61 she made her real stage debut playing Juliet in a Virginia Stage Company production of the Shakespearian drama. In fact, dancing was more on her mind than acting, as she dropped out of American University where she was studying acting in favor of running a ballet school.
By 1964 she had graduated high school and made a career as a professional dancer. Her acting career began as the "dumb blonde" character in a comedy series entitled "Good Morning, World", but the one that got her noticed was that of a regular member in the cast of "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In", another comedy show. The thing that made her stand out was that she could easily focus on her work and deliver time after time, even if she would sometimes break out in laughter in the middle of a joke. Of course, her looks were also an advantage and at the time she was quite the hottie. Following in this line of movie productions, she starred in 3 films up until the beginning of the early 70s: "Butterflies Are Free", "There's a Girl in My Soup" and "Cactus Flower" (1969) which earned her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. With an Oscar already under her belt, Goldie went on to star in a series of comedies but also moved into the movie production business.
The 1980s were marked by her performance in the movie "Private Benjamin", which garnered great success with the audience and was considered one of her funniest roles. Other notable parts were in movies like "Foul Play", "Best Friends", "Overboard" or "Bird on a Wire". She went through a period of calmness as far as her career goes up until 1992's "Death Becomes Her" which also featured Bruce Willis and Meryl Streep. In this one she plays one of two former divas who stumble upon an elixir of eternal youth and choose to live eternity together, even though they can't stand each other and they even fought for the same man (played by Bruce Willis). Her next project, in '96, was even bigger, co-starring with Bette Midler and Diane Keaton in the comedy "The First Wives Club".
After 2000's fiasco film "Town & Country" with Warren Beatty and Diane Keaton, Goldie pulled out of the movie world, making a short comeback in 2002 with "The Banger Sisters" alongside Susan Sarandon. She did announce a movie co-starring her "husband" (they're just living together) Kurt Rusell that will be called "Ashes to Ashes". But until then, she publicized her autobiography in 2005 which was called "A Lotus Grows in the Mud". And speaking of her husband, that role was taken by Gus Trikonis and then by rock star Bill Hudson between 1976 and 1980 (they had 2 children together - Kate Hudson whom you all know today as an accomplished actress and Oliver Hudson who is also an actor). As of 1982, she's been living together with Kurt Russel with whom she had a baby named Wyatt and who was born in 1986 (bringing her number of children to 3).
Although an avid Jew, Goldie has lately turned to Buddhism and now she's a Buddhist Jew as she herself put it on several occasions. She raises her family to embrace both religions and she makes annual visits to India and Israel. She has also been involved with some charitable work, aimed at spreading Buddhist beliefs among the American people. So, after reading all of the above, what do you think we should give her? An IN or an OUT? I'll let you guys decide.
