Vogue appears to have changed the strategy that brought it so many negative critics and chose to put Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow on its cover for the May issue. After all the controversies related to the magazine's cover featuring Gisele Bündchen and LeBron James in a King Kong-like pose, as well as the revolt of the mag's fans towards placing Victoria Beckham on the cover of the British version of the mag, Anna Wintour decided to play safe. Not only that she went with Gwennie, but it seems that she is also trying to promote the actress's latest movie, the much-awaited Iron Man.
Paltrow is wearing a gold, tissue-lame, embroidered Pre-Fall 2008 dress by Oscar de la Renta, Robert Lee Morris cuffs and is accompanied by an Iron Man mask that was lent to the magazine by Marvel Comics. The last time that fashion editor Anna Wintour promoted a movie on her cover was in September 2006 when Kirsten Dunst posed for her film Marie Antoinette.
Although the cover reads "I simplify everything", Gwyneth is pictured in a high-drama, robotic photo shoot inside the magazine. The actress is almost unrecognizable, with heavy makeup on and mechanical body parts or as a seductive vixen. Photographed by Steven Klein, the Vogue pictorial puts Gwyneth in a completely different light, bringing the powerful and seductive actress back into the public and the media's attention, after the sole image that she's displayed lately was that of loving mother and wife, discreet and humble.
Gwyneth's fans, as well those of the upcoming movie can quench their thirst of superhero stories, by checking out the May issue of Vogue magazine, which will guarantee them amazing, original images. The magazine's latest issue will hit the stands just a few days before the movie premieres, on May the 2nd.
