Apart from her vocal skills, Leona's makeup was the other thing one admired in "Bleeding Love". The smoky eye effect and the flawless complexion matched the video's atmosphere and the singer's attitude. Jane Bradley was the makeup artist who helped Leona achieve that stunning look. She did Leona's makeup in September/October 2007 and has been attached to the singer ever since. In the video, Leona was dressed in glittering Dolce and Gabbana outfit that matched her smoky makeup.
Jane used a foundation to cover Leona's spots and blemishes, which made the artist's complexion look quite wonderful and flawless during the shooting of the video. For that touch of color she swiped some blush along the cheekbone. But the makeup artist wanted to underline Leona's beautiful eyes. She achieved the smoky eye effect with the help of dark-green and silver hues. For the upper lid she used a black eye shadow toped by a sparkling green one; the result was an intense color that gave the singer a mysterious look. Underneath the eyebrow, Jane used a subtle metallic-silver hue. The hue was so gentle that only an experienced person could notice it; but it helped create that glamorous effect.
For the bottom lid the makeup artist made use of the same eyeshadow that she used on the upper one. She applied the intense dark-green hue from the second half of the bottom lid and swiped it to the outer corner of the eye. To the first half of the bottom lid Jane used the same subtle silver hue that she applied underneath the eyebrow. The dramatic effect was achieved through the use of intense black eyeliner to the inner side of the upper lid (the area near the eye). To finish her makeup, Jane applied two coats of mascara both to the upper and lower lashes. This created a dramatic smoky effect that dazzled everyone.
The use of too much makeup for the eyes was balanced by the nude shade of lipstick. Because the makeup artist didn't want to overdo it with too much color, Jane applied a gentle layer of lipstick to her pout. Jane Bradley made a wise choice with this neutral shade since a pink color would have been more youthful, but less appropriate. Overall, Leona's look in "Bleeding Love" was so great because her makeup artist payed attention to details like these. You, too, can easily achieve the singer's smoky eyes by following the steps enlisted above.
