Beyonce was one of PETA's most fierce enemies, her preference for luxurious natural fur being no secret to anyone. But the animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has called off its war with the newlywed pop sensation, after discovering that the singer's love affair had ended.
Although the fresh wife of legendary rapper Jay-Z was once near the top of PETA's "hitlist" because of her frequent sightings of her wearing fur coats - Beyonce was on the organization's infamous lists if animal haters, alongside Aretha Franklin, the Olsen twins, Kylie Minogue, Eva Longoria, Kate Moss and Lindsay Lohan - but the group has decided that the "Crazy in Love" singer is now fur-free.
Proving that they are very involved in their activities and serious about their actions meant to draw awareness to the animal rights worldwide, the PETA members changed tactics with Beyonce and sent her a fake fur throw as a wedding present to mark her marriage with music mogul Jay-Z last week. The first time that they had approached the Destiny's Child singer though, their purpose was to confront her with video footage showing animals being skinned for their fur.
The gift however, was accompanied by a note which read, " From all of us at PETA, we wish you much happiness in your life together. Please accept this faux-fur throw with many good wishes and a hope from us that together, you'll be a fur-free couple!"
According to Lisa Lange, Vice President of PETA, Beyonce has just entered the trend of celebrities, who, to keep PETA off their backs was to keep fur of their backs as well. However, the association isn't yet firmly convinced that this will be permanent in Beyonce's case, so they are letting time tell whether she is truly committed to being fur-free ot not.
