Ever since Paris Hilton and Benji Madden became an item a couple of weeks ago, they have been practically inseparable. Just like a regular couple, the two also began to match and color-coordinate their outfits, like we see here, at their most recent appearance at the Mercedes-Benz Autumn 2008 LA Fashion Week, where they showed their support for Nicky Hilton's fashion line, Nicholai. To say that Paris lost the little sense of style she had when she was touched by Benji's rock-ish tendencies is clearly an understatement and we're about to see why.
While Paris was never a trendsetter, the least she could always boast of was enough money for the best stylist you can buy. Now either the money or the stylist went MIA because if she's letting Benji dress her, then it must be true love and not just infatuation. For instance, the heiress, as many still call her, chose to attend her sister's gala in a mini red dress, with Roman inspired neckline, matching black pumps and Michael Jackson fingerless leather glove, just to keep her outfit in tune with Madden's rock meets chic style.
In the past, Paris has proved time and time again that she is one of the most ardent supporters of this little accessory that is the fingerless or golf glove but there comes a time in a woman's life when she must realize on her own that an evening gown or dress should be powerful enough to make a splash without having to add to it everyday items that are better suited for a night out clubbing than the red carpet. The same goes for the black and red ensemble that might seem appropriate for a fashion show but that lacks that very element that made Paris the icon she is for many designers - as the latest trends indicate that bold is the way to be, both in terms of colors and the way we combine them, she chooses to go the traditional way of dual colors in perfect symmetry.
As for "rebel" Benji, not only his clothes are telling us clearly that a fashion show is the last place a cool rocker like him should and would want to be, but also his body posture and the way he carries himself. If Paris were an accessory for him, she would be more like a heavy wooden pole he's forced to carry around, that's how uncomfortable he's acting around her. Add to that the vague suit, the black tee with the chains hanging loosely on his manly chest, the used sneakers, hat and dark old-fashioned black shades and what you have is not the very epitome of rock chic as he probably sees himself, but a sum of all men's fashion clichés ever since the '80s and up to the present day.
To add another jewel to the crown of this couple that proves once again that no amount of money can buy style, or a decent stylist, we might as well include Paris and Benji's choice of jewelry on such a special night for Nicky Hilton: matching rings. Not only do these two wear diamond rings with the other's initials, but they also seem to go out of their way to show them to everybody who's interested enough to look. Puppy love can be a grand thing but when it comes to fashion and being trendy, as Paris at least likes to be considered, there is a very thin line that must not be crossed. Paris and Benji are on the other side of it.
