Sad news today for wrestling fans everywhere. Chris Benoit, one of the famous faces in WWE, has been found dead on Monday in his home by police. People were shocked by this news but they were even more shocked when they learned that law enforcement officers found not only the wrestler's body in his house, but also that of his wife and of his son.
Everyone was just baffled as to why such a horrible thing occurred. Police are treating the case as a murder-suicide investigation. This is due to the fact that all bodies were found in separate rooms and the times of death don't coincide. Initial reports from the scene say that Benoit probably killed his wife and son sometime during the weekend and then committed suicide on Monday.
Friends and family (and fans too) couldn't believe their ears when they found out that the wrestler allegedly committed such a horrible thing. Those who knew him say it's just not possible that he murder his wife and son in cold blood like that but the cops are saying the evidence is circumstantial. Only forensics will tell the truth in the end.
Reasons as to why Benoit would become a murderer are still unclear. What is certain is that he missed a gig he had on Sunday night for "personal reasons" and failed to answer any of his employers' calls which made them call the police. Also, he did send some friends "funny text messages" (don't ask what "funny" means) that got them worried. The former heavy-weight champion was not known to have major issues in his life or his career, he loved his son, Robert, and he loved his wife (who was a wrestling valet). This is the reason why so many people were caught off guard by the news of the unfortunate event.
Last night, WWE canceled its original program and aired a 3 hour special on Chris Benoit. Right now, all we have are suppositions and allegations but no cold, hard facts. The investigation continues and the police say that as evidence will begin to surface, the public should prepare for some strange developments (what's that supposed to mean?). Anyway, we all feel sorry for this great tragedy and eagerly await further developments that might shed some light on the matter.
